Heart is heavy today.
Paper is unfair.
They enjoy their slant.
I love my son.
He is my best friend.
No word or deed will ever diminish my view of him.
He lives in a glass house. I live in a glass house.
I love my son.
I will be by his side forever.
Right is right and wrong is wrong.
I am sorry. For everything.
God loves me. God loves you.
Romans 8:28
I love God.
I love my son.
My Aunt died.
Going to her funeral today. Yes, Today.
I wonder if the paper will report the greatness of her life.
I doubt that.
Won't be holding my breath.
That would be a worthy article.
I have no comment.
Well I have several.
I just can't say them.
Don't want to be misquoted.
Will covet your prayers.
Praying is powerful.
I love my son.
He loves me.
No matter what I do, he loves me.
I love that.
I really love that.
He needs me.
I need him.
We both need God.
Today will pass. But God is eternal.
His love is eternal.
His grace is eternal.
His spirit is eternal.
I love my son.
God gave my son to me.
God gave his son to me.
Thank you God for my son.
Thank you God for your son.
That had to be hard.
Because, I love my son.
and I know that you love your son.
John 3:16
I love John 3:16.
I really love that.

Just a few thoughts...
Got to run to the funeral now.
My aunt was a Godly woman.
Wish you could have known her.
Will see my dad.
I love my dad.
My dad loves me.
It was his sister that died.
It's hard to bury your sister.
But that's what he's going to do today.
I must be with my son.
I must be with my father.
They both need me today.
I can do both.
It is an honor to help them.
They have both helped me in so many ways.
I love my dad.
I love my son.
I miss my grandfather.
He was a preacher too.
I don't remember his funeral.
He died when I was four.
His daughter is my Aunt.
Went to see her in the Hospital on Sunday.
Today I will see her laid to rest.
Heart is Heavy today.
I love my son.

Dudley. I'm so very sorry for everything happening at once for you. I know how it feels to get hit with everything all at once. I have lost my grandfather this year and everything just hit me all at once. It was during a hard semester for me and the day that my grandfather passed I had two big tests and was just overwhelmed.

My prayers too you Dudley. Trust in the Lord and you will see the light at the end of the tunnel. Even if you don't see it right now and don't think that you will.

Pastor Dudley & Family,

Please know that we love you and you're in our hearts and prayers. May the Lord give you the strength and the peace that you will need to get through this challenging time. We know you are a wonderful father and know you love your children very much and we have so much respect for you standing by your son and would not expect anything less from you. Please know we are standing with you and your son as well, realizing the enemy means it for harm, but God will use it for good.
Rely on one of my favorite sermons you preached in April of '08 that really helps me through hard times, "Jesus Has the Power to Calm Your Storms"
Please accept our condolences regarding your aunt. May God grant you and your family the peace that passes all understanding. We take comfort in knowing that we will soon see her in Heaven.

In our prayers,
Hernandez, Ibarzabal & Mendoza family

Dear Pastor,
I went through a similar experience with my son a few years ago. Luckily for us, we don't live in a glass bowl, so it didn't make front page headlines. We love our sons, and with God's love and grace, we make it through the tough times together. My sincere condolences on the loss of your aunt. I lost my sister last year - helped carry her coffin into the church. That was hard. My wife lost her uncle this year. We take comfort in knowing we will see them again. Dear Pastor D,

How disappointing the news must be for your family regarding your beloved son.

Having a teen is proving to be the most challenging time of my life right now. I'm convinced that all teens are demented; they are not in their right minds until their later years in life! I'm not sure who said this but I believe this quote to be true "youth is wasted on the young".

Take heart, there are lessons to be learned here.

Life is quite challenging at times especially with children. I know cause I have 7 of them, 5 boys!! It is unfortunate that the news media is so quick to forget all the good that you and Shepherd do for the community, just a couple of months ago you were giving shelter to the victims of the fires. How quickley they forget! Kids make mistakes, they do things without really thinking about it. We all know that. God help you all thru this diffucult time. I am praying for your family. I always ask God to bless you and keep you safe, you and your family. Your right when you say that you all "live in a glass house". The people that know you and your family of people at Shepherd love you. You have done so much for all of us. I ask that all of Shepherd and all the people that know you to pray for Gods blessing to help you through the tough days ahead. May God bless you as you have been such a blessing for our church. Thank you, thank you, thank you,for being such a great leader. In his name Dawn Almudarris

Dear Pastor Dudley,

Knowing you and having you as our pastor is really a blessing for me and my family. You have done great things to us and to soooo many people. You have touched our lives and have served as an inspiration. For all the things you and your family do, I know for sure that you have brought a smile on GOD's face. So please continue with what you are doing.

Hearing the news about your son, Dallas, is devastating. My heart too is saddened with the news. If only I can share that heavy load to lessen the burden from your hearts, I would really take some of it from you now. However, I know that it is just the devil who is working extra hard to get back at you and your family.

For this reason, I have emailed several of my friends this morning asking them to pray for protection for you and your family specially in this time of trial.

I understand as a parent myself, how much you love your SON and it pains you deeply when things go wrong. I too have experienced these several times from my beloved children, and it feels like stabbing pains. Remember, no matter what our children are GOD's blessings to us and GOD has appointed us to protect, love, nurture and take care of them.

I really want you to know that I understand:

You have a SON.
You love your SON.
You want the best for your SON.
Things happen for a reason that sometimes it is too hard to accept and comprehend. Be comforted to know that our ALMIGHTY GOD is faithful and is very much in control. As always, there is a 'someday' we can look back and understand the reason and be thankful because it has made us a better person.

In this very moment, I can understand your pain and it really saddens me. Take comfort that this too will pass and you are not alone in your journey.

Take care and may GOD, our faithful LORD AND SAVIOR, bless you and your family always.

With you in prayer,

Greetings and blessings Pastor Dudley; from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ...I feel your pains in the lost of your aunt; but what joy to know that you will see her again PTL. I too love and pray for Dallas and will continue to lift all of you in my prayer. The evil one is alive and rampant and I pray that this too will past "REMEMBER HIS PROMISES" I know you do.."Be strong and courageous and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God is with you. 1Chr.28:20

The Lord is our hiding place, He also dwells within our spirit...I know that your teaching and wisdom comes from His truth written in the Word..I have a personal relationship with Him and I know how important Your teachings are to me and to so many and I know that this too will pass ... I have much gratitude in my heart because of your teachings and goodness towards so many ... So many welcome your compassionate way of bringing the Word to life...Pastor D you are loved and I want you to know that You Are in my daily prayer ... Even more so lately because of your wife Rene' "she is so real and makes us feel so at ease at Vintage...I want to encourage you to continue to LOVE Dallas... he needs YOU now more that ever and with all of us praying... this is the confidence we have in approaching God that if we ask anything in His will, He hears us 1John 5:14

Forgetting what is behind and straining towards what is ahead, I press on towards the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you...
I am also lifting uP the other families in prayer ...

"These young folks are our future and we need to reach out and embrace them (not the act; for they are ashamed and hurting as well they should) and to let them know that there is HOPE in "JESUS" and that there is a lesson to be learn here...

God bless and keep you and your family in the palm of His hand...In His Service as I remember CALVARY's CROSS...Love Hulette

Dear Pastor Dudley,

I was a pregnant teenager who loved the Lord. Does that make sense in today's judgmental world? Well it was true. I made a mistake, got caught up in the world, but loved the Lord. Oh how I wish I could have had a father who responded to me the way you have responded in your blog today. Instead I was thrown out of my christian home at 16. Since then, I have struggled to believe God truly loves me. Loves me , the one who got pregnant before I was married.
Recently, God has allowed me to see his love for me... for real and I have wondered, as a successful business owner and mother of six children (3 teenagers) who also love the Lord, how i would respond if one of my girls found themselves pregnant at 16? How would I show them God's love even when I am truly disappointed? I have printed your blog to keep in my journal for the day i need the words to tell my kids "wrong is wrong" but I love them and God loves me.
Thank you pastor, see you Sunday.
Praying for you and yours

Dear Dudley ~ I am writing this as I have to share my own experience with my own son and how you helped years ago. My prayers and heart go out to you at this difficult time.
It is so hard to raise sons in the world we live in. We can work, pray and hope that we instill in them the values that we know are the only way to live. But sometimes things don't go as we planned. And our children make mistakes, that unfortunately we can't put "band-aids" on anymore. Or kiss and make it "feel better".

I know so well what you are going through, as I had had some difficulties with one of my older sons 5 - 6 years ago. I don't know if you remember, but my youngest son, Ricky, played on your basketball team for Hillcrest.

My older son, had gotten into trouble with the law, and was being sent to jail for 6 months. It was the most difficult time in my life. Several days before we had to turn him in, we had made plans to go to a Laker game one last time before he left. Ricky chose to go with the family and miss practice. He wanted to spend as much time as possible with the brother he "adored".

At the next game, I noticed when I got to the game, he wasn't playing. I could see in his face he was upset. His brother had left the day before, but I knew that wasnt it. After the game, he told me he had been benched for missing practice.

I am embarassed to say, that I was quite angry with you.I felt that Rickys decision to be with family during this dificult time was the right decision. I think you probably even knew I was!

You called me on the phone that night and we talked for quite awhile about the situation. You gave me some very good advice and insight on how to get through this devastating time for our family. You prayed with me and I hung up feeling much better.

The reason I am bringing this up, is that you helped me through my older sons ordeal (and you didn't even know the boy). And Ricky saw for himself that you truly cared and weren't judgemental. That is the gift you have.

I am happy to say my older son is turning 30 next month, just had his 3rd child, and is the most wonderful husband, father, son, and brother to Ricky. He has a good job with the city and truly grew up and cleaned up his act. He regrets deeply what he put me through years ago.

And so this too shall pass for you and your family. I've known Dallas since he was a little boy. Ricky played at your house many times. I know that with the love and support that Dallas has between family, friends, and the church, he will get through this just fine.

And in a couple years you will be able to look back and see this was a bump in the road. It might look like a trench right now, but with God's love and guidance, he will see your family through it.

Our families prayers are with you, Denise K.

This is the first time that I have responded to any blog. I wanted to take the time to let you know that my heartaches knowing that you and your family are going through some tough times. In my teenage years, I was in a similar situation, and I don’t recall that being publicized.
The media will misquote, misguide, and mislead us just to create a storyline to sell newspapers or bump up TV ratings.
They eat up people’s failures and criticize people’s faults. Each and everyone of us has made some sort of mistake and its through life’s experiences we grow and learn from them. What makes us different from everyone else is that we have Jesus to wash away our sins.

They will just point the finger, spread gossip and judge you just because of who you are. Christian…..Pastor……
Stay strong. We believe in you, your son, your family. The Lord will see you through this. And through this, YOU will see a stronger and more devoted congregation. WE LOVE YOU!!!!

it is shocking to hear the news of dallas as i remember being his classmate in middle school and high school. we all make mistakes and are mislead by worldly temptations. nobody in this world is perfect, everybody makes mistakes and it is from these mistakes that we learn and grow. although some make it look like he is a victim the truth is we must all own up to our actions and take responsibility whether right or wrong. the task at hand now is to get back on track and learn from previous mistakes. may the Lord be with you and your family and guide you as you move on from this and may you be strenghened by this situation.

Pastor Dudley,

Please know that you are a blessing and an inspiration to thousands of people. Our Lord Jesus Christ is using you mightily in these last days, thus, the evil one is trying to pull you stronger by giving you trials. Everything happens for a reason. Be still and know that HE is LORD. HE is sovereign in everything. You are HIS beloved child and we have the assurance that HE will never leave us nor forsake us.

I empathized with you,Pastor Dudley, and I know how it feels because I am a mother, too. Our prayers are with you and your family each and everyday.

Thank you for touching our lives to become dedicated Christians.

God bless and we love you!

As I sat in front of the computer attempting to figure out what to post, I found myself stumped for words. I stared at the screen, attempting to put words together that would truly express the love we have for and your family; but the love we have is a type of love that is best expressed and not written. Then it hit me. My youngest of seven began to cry for an unknown reason. She is two and can barely speak, yet her pain could clearly be heard through her sadness. I determined that there was nothing physically wrong with her, so my next reaction was to pick her up, cradle her in my arms and love her so hard until she stopped hurting. That is what fathers do regardless of the wrongs that children do. Our children will always be our babies and regardless of their size, we will always cradle them, in our arms until they stop crying. So in your time of pain as you cradle your son and attempt to heal his pain, remember that our Lord is cradling you in His arms attempting to heal your suffering.

Dearest Pastor Dudley,
Tonight as I prayed with Ethan, my son, we asked God to fix it, right away! We asked Him to comfort and guide you, your wife, your son, and your daughters during this most disparaging situation. Ethan asked, “What’s wrong with Pastor Dudley?” I then explained, tearfully, how none of us, even the most Godly, are beyond Satan’s reach, and that even you and your son were under the enemy’s attack. I explained to Ethan that Satan is very powerful and that we must always pray for God’s protection. Pastor Dudley, you have been a constant inspiration in my walk with Christ. I admire and respect you because you have an incredible ability to relate to people as we live in this unholy world. You guide us, you give us hope and you educate us all. I have a new found level of admiration and respect for you because I know that you will, with all of God’s love, continue to walk by faith, and not FEAR, (False Evidence Appearing Real). You have taught us that God is good, and that He is present in the hard stuff, too! God knows the goodness and sincerity of your heart! You are a humble and loyal servant, too! This evil nightmare will soon be behind us!
In His Name,
Your sister in Christ.

Just because we're Christians living out God's principles for life, does not mean we won't face difficult circumstances.

The difference being a Christian makes is how the difficulties affect us. If we are hearing and heeding God through our prayer time and reading His Word, then we will be able to stand strong in the storms of life.

Our faith will not be shaken and our identity will not be rattled.

You and your wife have been wonderful parents who model strong Christian ethics. Your son has also exhibited ethical and moral behavior and I would not characterize him as one who typically makes wrong choices.
I will continue to pray that God will give your family comfort, wisdom, and peace in this storm. I will also pray that all who learn about this trial will be filled with compassion, and that the reputations of the church and it's beloved pastor not be diminished in any way. Hi Pastor Dudley,
This is the first time I checked out your blogs. I did so to see your thoughts on the recent situation with your son. When I read your blog, I cried! The humanness, well, I thank you for your honesty. It's admirable! Thank you for showing how much you love your son. You are showing God's love... how He stands with us every day. With today's world, I often ask God to show me, here on earth, not just in my heart, His love - to remind me that His presence is alive here on earth. I saw His love again in your blog today. Thank you Dudley and praise God!!!

I have seen many pastors go through tough times and be tested. I know that pastors and their families are often a main focus of the devils. He wants to bring you and yours troubles because you are doing so much good for God (...and because you head the church). You are one of the greatest messengers of God's out there these days, and so of course the devil will try and do anything to hinder God's work through you. I know you are aware of this.

The devil can try all he wants, but we know who has already won the victory over you and your son. The devil has NO jurisdiction with you or your son. Remember to claim Christ's victory and to disclaim any evil that has tried to get in.

My family and I have been praying and will continue to do so for your son, your family, and you.

We too love your son. He is our brother in Christ.

Thank you for being who you are and for your walk with Christ. You have always been an inspiration to me and my family, better yet, you have always challenged me in my walk with God - you make me long to know God more. I praise God for your gifts and for what He has yet to come through you and through these trying times.

Lastly, I pray for your family during the loss of your aunt and I also praise God for her homecoming. I can only imagine the sweet happiness she is feeling now!

In Christ,

Dear Pastor Dudley,
We have all fallen short of the glory of God. Your son is not the first one nor will he be the last one to make a bad choice. The following scripture was worth repeating: Isaiah 40:28-31, Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Hey Dudley, roll with the punches. God has given you a tremendous opportunity to open your eyes and see that love, obviously, isn't enough to keep a kid from screwing up. Self-examination can be hard. You keep saying that you love your son. What else can we as parents learn from this? What can we do differently that might keep our kids righteous? Self-examination, Dudley.
God will give you answers, and You will pass them on to us who seek. That's what you do. God is with you, Dudley, everything is already taken care of. Listen! That knock on the door is opportunity to serve your Lord.

I don't know you or your family, but for some reason especially after reading your blog entry, it feels like my family. That reason is because God is real and has forgiven me for much greater things than this. Be strong, deal with it, and don't listen to the accuser.

Dear Pastor D

I have never responded to your Blog before, but I try and check it every day to see what's happening... with the exception of your latest entry. I didn't log in yesterday, nor did I read the paper or watch the news, so the first time I heard about the situation with Dallas was when a co-worker brought it up. Then I read your Blog and called a dear friend from Church to fill me in on the details... Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that you and Renee and your children are in my Prayers.

I have only been a Member of Shepherd since the Spring of 2008 and I am so very proud to say that I have finally found my Church Home! You have inspired me in so many ways that this Blog response would never be long enough to tell you how much my life has changed for the better because of you!

Shortly after I became a Member, my older brother died unexpectedly on a Sunday Morning and my plane back home wouldn't leave until the evening and I was just in shock as to what to do since my entire family was back East and I was all alone here in California... long story short, I suddenly realized that I wasn't alone and it was Sunday and I needed to be in Church! I became instantly surrounded with such Tender Loving Care that enabled me to have the strength to do what needed to be done to lay my beloved brother at rest. I could not have gotten through that time if it hadn't been for Shepherd of the Hills Church and with YOU at the helm, I know that everything will be alright. I trust you more than you will ever know and I want you to know that you can trust me to stand with you no matter what!

You will see your son through this difficult time as I have seen my family members through other similar wrong choices in judgment. Been there, done that and moved on. Everything will work itself out as long as we remember that Love is the most powerful weapon against Evil! Your love for your son and the love of our entire church family for all of you will never diminish. Just lean on us and allow us to support you in whatever way possible.

My favorite Sermon this year was "The Parable of the Sower (Soil)". I have the CD and I listen to it often because it reminds me to be strong in all things. When you said that being a Christian and a Member of Shepherd of the Hills Church costs you everything and that there are many things that happen at Church that we may not agree with and those without strong roots simply fall away... Well my roots are getting stronger everyday and I "Thank You" from the bottom of my heart for giving me the best soil in which to grow.

Blessings Always!

P.S. Remember what they say about today's newspaper lining tomorrow's birdcage...

Dear Pastor Dudley,

I read the newspaper yesterday morning, while driving my son to work and I felt sick at heart, for you and your family. Immediately, I covered you in prayer, and my prayer group lifted you and your family up to the throne of God last night. Your blog today touched my heart and reminded me of a time some 4 years ago. My sons, who attended Shepherd, were involved in crystal meth. I'm a single mom and I have done my best and trained them up in the ways of the Lord. Your blog reminded me of that time that no matter what they did, or what people said about them, I love them, and never stopped, and never will. Praise God that they have been delivered, and I have found much comfort in the walls of Shepherd of the Hills Church, and through your teachings and example. I hope that everyone who read the paper or saw the news, will see your blog, because it demonstrates unconditional love -- not only God's love for us, but exactly what Jesus said we should do, and love each other more than ourselves. I praise the Lord for the awesome testimony Dallas will have, all for the glory and honor of JESUS CHRIST! God bless you and keep you. I love you and am ALWAYS praying for you and your family.

All growth is through trial and error for the mere human. Even when we start walking we fall down. Dallas will regain his footing and all will be well again. He will lean upon you and you will stand and be his rock as the Lord has been your rock in every dark hour. The passing of your Aunt is a blessing... to be with the Lord free from a world of sin, there could be no better place than in paradise with the Almighty. We suffer pain because we are human, but knowing that your Auntie is with Him, no grander plan could ever be fulfilled.

I hold you and your family in my prayers and thank the Lord above for giving us, the people of Porter Ranch and Shepherd of the Hills, your pure heart and dedication to the congregation. You make me proud to be a member at Shepherd!

Hi Pastor Dudley,
I am sorry to hear about the incident that involved Dallas. Sometimes things happen in our lives so the Lord can take us in a different direction. I imagine that Dallas has a high calling in his life like just his father! And maybe through this trial the Lord will show him if He already hasn't. You once told me that you wanted to be a basketball coach & business man, and I know you would have been great at both. But you also told me that the Lord called you to be a preacher just like your dad. And in obedience to the Lord you chose the better. And the Lord has blessed you and your family in a mighty way. I will continue to pray for you and your family,as I have all these years. That thru this trial the Lord would pour out His Grace & Peace upon you and your family. And remember that we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those that are the called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). Dear Pastor Dudley,

" For we know that all things work together for good to those who love God..."

There is always a light at the end of that tunnel....sorry that you are experiencing these difficulties. God is really trusting you to handle them all....for you are a faithful servant to Him and to your flock.
Please know you are prayed for.

Pastor Dudley, in correction there is chaos. We have a saying in our house, kinda corny, but true--this, too, shall pass. Also, remember, we all went through stuff when we were young, and we turned out okay.

Your son's incident has inspired those of us single parents in an odd and unexpected way. You see, we single parents with no family support or financial resources like you, those of us who have had children go to jail or in other trouble, can say that even kids from the best of circumstances can be held captive by the Enemy.

Did you know that for the first time in American history that 51% of American women are single, divorced, or women, and many raising kids by ourselves? You have many single parents in your congregation who are suffering and need support.

While we love and pray for you, maybe this incident will open your eyes to a new reality. Welcome to our world of jails, courts, and expensive bail bonds.

"The seed of the righteous will be delivered" (Proverbs 11:21). What the Enemy meant for your destruction, the Lord will use for good. Take care, dear Pastor. Having done all to stand, stand therefore.

Though we walk through the fire, HE will be there- As family (Children of the King) we are here for one another and united we are stronger than the darts of the media for we KNOW "whose" we are and it's in HIM we place our HOPE and TRUST! IT'S ALL ABOUT JESUS!!!
Thank you Dudley for your honesty and for sharing your heart with us just as you always do! We love you and your family as our own! We look forward to seeing you Sunday!

Hi, Dudley...I'm sure that in spite of all the support and love you felt tonight, you are glad tonight is over. You did an excellent job, and the year's sermon/event schedule looks wonderful, thanks so much.

I was glad to hear you will do a For Men Only and For Women Only sermon, and you asked for input. Then you said, wives go home and tell your husbands, and husbands go home and tell your wives...

Pastor, do you realize that for the first time in American history, 51% of women are single, divorced, or widowed? Some times we single women feel invisible, ignored, and overlooked in the church.

Many of us have faced similar challenges to what you faced this week, but without the family support and financial resources you enjoy. Imagine going through something this difficult with your child, but without a spouse by your side. It's not easy or fun, loneliness is a huge issue, and many of us are the victims of adultery and abandonment.

So, you could you please acknowledge and address the new reality of singlehood in your congregation? Yes, families still exist, but today they come in many shapes, sizes, and configurations. The other side--the single parent--needs to be shown. Thank you for your consideration.
