Me and Yao

I am looking at this picture, and this is an illustration of sooooooooo many things, but let me simply state that I came away from China with a burdened heart. There are 1.3 billion people in that country, and most of the population have NEVER heard a clear presentation of the Gospel. I am praying that God would burden all of our hearts to get OUT of our COMFORT ZONES and do something that will really make a difference in someone else's life.

It doesn't seem right or fair that so many of us have heard the gospel 1,000 times, and yet so many have yet to hear it even ONCE. Lord, please give us eyes to see that there is something we could do, if we were ONLY motivated enough to do it, to share the love of Jesus with the world.

Video of the Philippines

As you may know, I was honored with the opportunity to preach in the Philippines a couple of Sundays ago at the Baptist Conference Church of Bacolod in Bacolod City. What a precious and beautiful group of believers and what a privilege to get to spend some time fellowshipping with them. Check out this video:

China 2008

A Photo that I set up. Haha..

For the past two weeks, we have had around 20 members from Shepherd in Beijing for the 2008 Olympics.

It was several years ago that the Lord put it on my heart to take advantage of the opportunity that the Olympics would afford us and see how many seeds we could plant with regard to the gospel. Words cannot fully describe the joy of my heart in watching members of Shepherd share the love of God with so many people in such a short period of time.

We took a drama team, a music team, a photography team, and a basketball team, to name just a few. We spent a LOT of time in the city parks and were well received by the Chinese people. We handed out Bibles as well as some gold pins that read "More Than Gold" that were used as a springboard to tell people that in God's eyes they were worth MORE than GOLD.

Despite the threats of the government, and of course, the language barrier, God granted us ample opportunities to share HIS message, to hand out Chinese Bibles, and to serve the people of China.

China has 1.2 Billion people, most of whom have never heard of Jesus Christ, and they are in desperate need of salvation and the word of God. I am currently wearing a wrist band that says, "Pray for China." Please join me in praying for the people of China, that God would not just grant them "human rights," but that God would also grant them religious freedom, and that the Gospel would be spread throughout its land.

Rick Martin in the Philippines

Standing in front of the Iloilo Church with Rick Martin

Looking into the INSIDE of his 2000 seat church building on a Saturday afternoon

I taught these boys this Hawaiian greeting. They are the children of parents who are enrolled in the Bible college that Rick Martin started.

I want to write a little post about Rick Martin. Rick is the son of RUSS MARTIN, who was a dynamic preacher and evangelist that worked with my grandfather. About 30 years ago, Rick decided he wanted to be on the mission field, and he chose the Philippines. He visited about four cities and knew in is heart that God had called him to a place called Iloilo (pronounced ee-low-ee-low).

Since I was on my way to the Olympics, I decided to stop and visit with Rick. I had not stayed in touch with Rick over the years but wanted to catch up and see his work. WAS I EVER SURPRISED AND RICHLY BLESSED FOR VISITING HIM!

Rick started with NO ONE, and he and his wife just moved there in faith and started a Bible study in his home. Let me add that the average wage in the Philippines is $5.00 per DAY. It is a third world country. Rick begins to pray for and evangelize to the people of Iloilo, which happens to be the fifth largest city in the Philippines.

Today, the church, Iloilo Baptist Church, runs over 4,000 in attendance, and with the blessing of God, he started a Bible College. Today, his graduates have started over 600 churches throughout the Philippines.

I believe it was this past Saturday when I visited his campus, and there were close to 1,000 young people who had gathered at the church, and they were getting ready to do some evangelistic work throughout the city.

Rick TOTALLY blessed me with his story and his faith. I was so grateful for the chance to visit with him, to pray with him, and to speak to about 1,000 people for just a few minutes that day.

Please check back in a few days, and I hope to have a post from another island in the Philippines where I preached.

Rick... God bless you and the people of Iloilo... You are a GREAT MAN of God... and your father is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo blessed by your life and ministry.

I am humbled by your life.

Headed to China

Overlooking Hong Kong from the Intercontinental Hotel

I am so excited to be headed to the Olympics and wanted to write a few posts from time to time.

I am preaching this weekend in the Philippines and then afterwards, I will be flying to Beijing. First, I stopped in Hong Kong for just a few days, and lo and behold, on my flight over, one of the girls that I coach (on my 12 year old daughter, Kerri's, basketball team) was on the same flight. Her father, Joseph, was the ACTUAL pilot of the 747, and he invited me up to the cockpit for a picture. I do NOT know why he wouldn't let me fly the plane, but it was a smooth flight, and we landed safely. Last night, we ate dinner at the Intercontinental Hotel, where we enjoyed a breathtaking view overlooking the city of Hong Kong. It is a beautiful city.

I had the chance to witness to several people. The first is a boy named Billy, and GOD ORDAINED, that he and his mother would sit down next to me at a small table in a mall. We became friends. He was happy to talk to me in English. He had learned it in school, but I do NOT know if he had ever actually used it in conversation with someone from America. We talked about a lot of things and then I asked him about faith. And like so many people, actually millions upon millions, they do not have faith in God. They do not believe in God, they do not believe in heaven. They do not know Jesus or anything about Jesus.

So I asked Billy if I could take his picture and I told him that I would post it on my blog. He is a super young man and I explained to him about God's Son, and I pray that God would use Billy one day to win millions to the Lord in Hong Kong.

Today, I will actually be flying to Manila, and then flying to a city called Iloilo and preaching in a city called Bakolod on Sunday. I hope to write more later.

I heard William Lee preached an awesome sermon this past weekend. I listened to some of it on http://www.callonjesus.com/ and told William if I wasn't saved, I would have gotten saved after listening to his sermon.

Pray for me! That the Lord would be honored this weekend through my message.

The Cross in America - Unbelievable Photo

Earlier this year, as I introduced the theme for our church for 2008, "The Signature of Jesus," which is the cross, I challenged the congregation to find creative ways to display the cross at home, work, school, etc. Recently, someone emailed me the picture above, and I think it fits so perfectly with our theme.

This is a beautiful photo of a giant American flag in Arizona. The photo is authentic, untouched and was taken on regular Kodak 35mm film. The person who took the picture couldn't believe the image created by the suns rays. Nice of them to share it with the world!

Let us pray for a revival in this country...that we would be a nation that once again honors the miracle of the cross and honors God.
