The Latest Update from Shepherd of the Hills - Fremont, CA

Dear Loved ones,
What a glorious God we serve! Thank you for praying for our satellite campus here in Fremont. God has been very gracious to answer our prayers!
Thanksgiving and praises!
W-o-w! SOTH-Porter Ranch sent us a really great projector! Please send our thanks to our loved ones at Porter Ranch! Thank God for Centerville Presbyterian Church for allowing us to use their projector and projector screen since october 7!
last December 21, Panera bread started donating large amounts of artisan bread, muffins, cookies and bagels to our church to help feed the homeless people who come for worship and dinner. On December 21,they gave us 4 20-gallon bags. This week, they gave us 6 large bags. Everyone brought home bags of bread as their "take away" from worship. God has provided bread from heaven.. literally!
5 people walked into the service last Sunday. Richard said that they did not stay long but they stayed long enough to hear pastor Dudley's message. Please pray that they will be touched by Jesus and save them and that they will be coming back this Sunday.
Lives are being changed! A homeless lady has been attending worship for the past couple of Sundays... but she is always high on drugs. I heard tonight that she has been sober for three days now. Please pray that God will have mercy on her and heal her from her drug addiction. Sharlene Kelly (leads our homeless ministries with her husband Kevin) told me about her conversation with a homeless person who attends SOTH-Fremont regularly. she said "I used to go to SOTH for the dinner, but now, I come to worship and listen to the messages."
We have 34 people tonight... some of them are new faces.
God is a wonderful and amazing Father in heaven!
In Christ's merciful hands!

"Today in the City of David, a Saviour has been born. He is Christ the Lord!" I LOVE THAT!!!

Merry CHRISTmas to each of you... and a Blessed New Year!

Mike Huckabee

I attended a luncheon this week where I had the opportunity to meet Mike Huckabee. He is running for President of the United States of America. It won't be long where we, as a nation, will be electing our 44th President. I do NOT yet know who I will be voting for, but I want to encourage each of you to vote. The latest news on the polls are as follows, from an article I read this morning:

"DES MOINES, Iowa (Reuters) - Mike Huckabee has surged into a virtual tie with front-runner Rudy Giuliani in the national 2008 Republican presidential race two weeks before the first contest, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.
Huckabee, a former governor of Arkansas whose campaign has caught fire in recent weeks, wiped out an 18-point deficit in one month to pull within one point of Giuliani, 23 percent to 22 percent."

You may or may not know WHO you are going to vote for yet, so I suggest that you read up on the voting record of each person running for office. My words of wisdom are that I personally canNOT vote for any candidate who does not stand for the rights of an unborn child. I know there are MANY issues... but the litmus test for me is whether or not the person running for office believes in the sanctity of life. If they do NOT stand for the rights of an unborn child, the same as they stand for my rights... then they will NOT get my vote... PERIOD... The issue of life for the unborn is greater than any issue for me.

Make sure you find where each candidate stands BEFORE you support them...

In love,
Pastor Dudley

Those who Sacrifice for Us!!

Click on the picture to view it in its full size format

The picture was taken in 1918. It is a gift from our grandfathers, and it's a picture of 18,000 men preparing for war in a training camp at Camp Dodge in Iowa.

I have been looking at this picture, and I can't stop thinking about how many men and women have given their lives so that we might have our freedom.

We have soooooooooooooooooo much to be thankful for, and of course, this picture also reminds me of our Lord, who sacrificed His life so that we might have LIFE EVERLASTING!!!

This Christmas, try to think about the fact that God loved YOU so much that he was willing to give his ONE and ONLY son so that YOU might believe in HIM and not perish but have everlasting life.

Dallas on ESPN2

Dallas is playing on television Thursday night, December 6th, on ESPN2 at 6:00 pm. They are playing the number 8 ranked team in the nation, so they will have their work cut out for them. Just wanted you to know in case you wanted to see him play. The game will be held in a suburb just outside of Cleveland, Ohio so please keep them in your prayers. One of Dallas' teammates is Jrue Holiday, and Jrue is a special player that recently signed with U.C.L.A. Jrue is also a member of our church, and the Lord put some special talents in both of these boys. My prayer for them has always been for them to find a way to use their talent for the Lord. They both went to Japan with us a few years ago on a missions trip, and I know that Dallas has been praying with the team before their games... Tune in Thursday. I will be enjoying watching my son. Look for them both to be in church this weekend...

Richard and Manny!!! Shepherd of the Hills Fremont

You may or may not know that we have a Shepherd of the Hills Campus in Fremont, California led by the two gentlemen in the above picture.... Richard on the left and Manny on the right.
Recently I had breakfast with these two men of God in Hayward, California.

They have been conducting services watching the sermon on DVD for 5 years and recently sent me the following report. I thought you would enjoy reading about what God is doing in Northern California... Read and Enjoy....

Dear Loved ones,
Greetings in the beautiful name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

Have you met a man with 6 personalities and each of these personalities are saved? This may sound a bit strange, but Johnnie, one of the homeless persons who attends worship at SOTH-Fremont is said to have 6 personalities and each one of them has been saved.

Johnnie had been coming since the third Sunday (we're on our 8th week) and had been regularly sitting in front with his hands together, and always, eyes closed looking upward to heaven when we pray and offer communion. I do not know which personality attends church on a given Sunday but hey .. that person is saved!

Last Sunday was thanksgiving Sunday and we served dinner to over 30people who attended the worship service. We marvel and are blessed at the way God is working in this ministry. We had, for the first time, two teenagers come and worship with us and stood by Richard to serve food to everyone who came. We also had two elderly ladies who attended.

We had turkey and bread, and mashed potatoes. and the biggest surprise was that a homeless person brought a dozen blueberry muffins to church so that the others can share it with him.

What a joy of giving! God continues to amaze us because people are hearing about SOTH and they are bringing food and clothing as they join us in worship each week.

Pastor James Washington in his sermon on loving the lost was really applicable as I saw Richard and Yvonne minister to the homeless over dinner.

Everyone took part in the communion including Nate and Austin, the youngest members of our congregation. God has blessed this ministry with people who just want to serve our Lord Jesus.

Kevin and Sharlene Kelly, head of our homeless ministries, buys 1 pair of winter shoes each week as their offering to the homeless people. Kevin is a minimum wage earner but he has committed to offer half a days salary to buy a pair of shoes to give to a homeless person. I see Jesus in both Kevin and Sharlene.

Having been homeless themselves once before, Kevin gave a two minute testimony of how God saved them from the depths of drugs and homelessness and how they were delivered by the crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ.

After pastor James' sermon completed and right before communion, a new face passed a piece of paper to me... in that was a note: "I have two turkeys and complete with stuffing for you to use next Sunday... but needs cooking." what a wonderful gift that God is using this church to serve.

They come for the dinner... We know that they come for the food but then they worship and listen to the message. They recently heard pastor Dudley's message "Greatest tool for evangelism" and pastor Francis Chan's "brevity of life" message and last Sunday's loving the lost.

By faith, we pray that souls will be saved and that their lives will be taken from the grip of homelessness. We continue to be excited every Sunday. God has continued to provide for the place and the food and the people to come. Thank God for Kari Macer who always sends me the sermon outline without fail every Thursday! And to Steve Tarlton who stays up really late on Saturday evenings just to post the video image file on the server so that i can pull it up.

We feel God continuing to work in this ministry. Someone told me this evening that SOTH in Fremont is a place where the homeless people feel welcome to worship. they cannot attend any other church because their clothes are filthy but they, sure enough, at 5:00 p.m. every Sunday, are at our doorstep and come and worship with us.

Please pray for each and every unsaved person attending our Sunday service that God will have mercy and compassion on them.- we are praying for a worship leader and band to be selected by God and lead us in worship.- pray that more people will be touched by the Lord to come and worship and serve with us.

Until my next report, Maranatha!!!!In Christ's merciful hands.

Mom and Dad

Dallas, Dad, and Dudley
Mom, Kayla and Kerri
Ask Dallas who won????
Dad getting ready to pray for our Thanksgiving meal.
Had a chance to go see my parents over Thanksgiving and I just wanted to thank the Lord for my parents and all they have ever done for me in both word and example. I truly am a blessed man to have such Godly parents.

Most of you know my dad and how great of a preacher he is and probably most of you do not know much about my mom. She is a SAINT!!! :) and she is the one who held our family together. My mom is funny. She is beautiful and delightful. She is wise and she is the worlds leading mulitasker. She was the one who dressed us and got us to church on weekends, fixed all our meals and made sure we always behaved.

I just want to tell you that I PRAISE GOD for my parents and I hope that I can be the same for my own three children.

Hopefully each of you will take time over these holidays to reflect on your families and to express your love and appreciation to them.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Just wanted to write and wish everyone a HAPPY Thanksgiving... I pray that we will all realize how blessed we are. The Lord has been sooooooooooooo good to us. I look back over my life and see where God has simply POURED his goodness into every area of my life.

I thought I would just start a small list of some of the things that I'm thankful for....

I'm thankful for the Lord, thankful for the Bible, thankful for my family, my wife and children, and I'm thankful for my friends.

My thanksgiving list also includes Shepherd of the Hills Church, my life, my health, my staff and my ministry.

I'm appreciative that the Lord allows me to live in California, thankful for all the Christians who live in our city, thankful for our Christian schools and Christian preschools. I'm thankful for the Christian heritage that my parents gave to me, and I pray that I can pass that on to my children.

I'm thankful for our freedom and for the men and women who defend our nation everyday around the world. I'm also thankful for the veterans and for those who died that we might have the freedoms we now enjoy.

I'm thankful for the missionaries who serve around the world, thankful for all those who volunteer in our Church. I'm thankful for our Elders and thankful for those who work in the Children's department. I'm thankful for those who are here for the long haul... those that are NOT going to give up when times get tough....

I have to say I'm thankful for pumpkin pie with whipped cream... :)

May you take some time this weekend to truly thank the Lord for ALL his KINDNESS and GOODNESS.

In love,

Pastor Dudley

Howie Dudley Mandel

Howie Dudley Mandel
Pastor Models in the background
Four Volunteers that wanted their picture with the real Howie...
I HATE showing you this picture.. but many people have asked me to post a picture of our event for our volunteer banquet. We acted out the game show "Deal or NO Deal" and I was selected to play the part of game show host Howie Mandel... All the pastors dressed up with their cute bow ties and numbered cases as we proceded to give $1.00 away to unlucky Margo Ugalde and of course $1,000,000.00 dollars to quite and shy Lori Padilla.

For all who were present it was a fun evening where we were able to show our appreciation to all of our volunteers.

Our church is so blessed with people who eagerly and frequently step up to the plate to serve and lend a hand at a moments notice.

I want to thank EACH of you for using your gift to honor the Lord and I only hope that you fully understand how appreciative we are of YOU.

In love,

Charles Haddon Spurgeon 1834-1892

This past Sunday after church, a woman from the church showed me this quote from Charles Spurgeon, who was a famous preacher in the 1800's. He was a powerful preacher, and this quote moved me when I heard it, so I wanted to share it with all of you.

Here it is...

"If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to hell over our bodies. And if they will perish, let them perish with our arms about their knees, imploring them to stay. If hell must be filled, at least let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let no one go there unwarned and unprayed for."

Wow, a moving picture of Christians doing everything within our power to reach the lost before they perish.

Again, why not share a comment on what YOU do to help reach the lost.

I will be preaching this weekend on "the most powerful witnessing tool." Please come with your Bible and a friend.

How do you share your faith?

Then He said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field."
Matthew 9:37, 38

This week at church, I shared some creative ways to share your faith with others. Now, it's your turn. Click on the comments link at the bottom of this post, and you can type in the creative ways you've used to share your faith. Then, next week, I might select two or three to share with the church.

Revival at the Wadsworth

What a Team!!!

I have been coaching Kerri's middle school basketball team. It is comprised of 6th, 7th and 8th grade girls. They are a great bunch of kids. They all love to play and we are having a good season. I have not posted a picture of Kerri recently so I thought I'd post a few. Kerri doesn't really like to play as much as my other two children but she runs up and down that court primarily because she knows I like it so much.
As her father, I'm a little torn because she does a pretty good job but I'm never sure if she really wants to be out there. It was interesting that when we begin stretching before practice that Kerri ( a 6th grader at Hillcrest Christian School) is always the first in line to LEAD the stretching. Usually and 8th grader would step up to lead but Kerri is always anxious to lead.
You see, I think she is anxious NOT because she LOVES the game of basketball... you can ask her... she doesn't really enjoy it that much... but the reason she leads the stretching is because she is a LEADER. God placed that within her!! And God has placed different gifts within each of us... and when we use those gifts the Lord is glorified.
Not only is Kerri leading the stretching, she is always quick to say a prayer or lead a devotion. Yes, I am thankful that I get to hang out with her on the basketball court, but i'm most thankful that she has a heart for God.
We have a few games left.... I think we play L.A.B at Hillcrest Christian School on November 2nd at 3:15 pm. Come out and cheer us on if you'd like.

Tonight at the Wadsworth !!!

Sunday Night: Rapha and his wife

[In order to protect their identities, as they do ministry in dangerous parts of the world, I am unable to show their photo.]

Monday Night: Jeff Walling

Tuesday Night: Bishop Blake and his wife, May
Wednesday Night: Miles McPherson We have had a MIGHTY REVIVAL at Shepherd. The music and the preaching each night has been stirring. I have never been a part of a Revival where each night, so many people stepped forward during the invitation time. Each and every night, you could sense God moving, and the Spirit of God was upon our church. The weekend services with Matt Proctor could NOT have been better. Rapha had some amazing stories... Jeff Walling is a gifted communicator... Bishop Blake was powerful... and last night, Miles was incredible.

Tonight, though, is the final night of this year's Revival, and it will be held at the Wadsworth Theatre, located on the Northwest corner of the 405 Freeway and Wilshire Blvd., at 7:00 pm SHARP... Please do your best to join us... We will be spending the night in worship and praise!!! Looking forward to seeing each of you there. Be in prayer and be PREPARED for what God has in store for us tonight.

Revival 2007

Are you READY for Revival????????????????? It is HERE!!! Starting this weekend and running through Thursday evening, it promises to be one of the highlights for our church this year. I have been praying so much that God would do a work in ME... That he would lead ME to be renewed and revived. For so long, the Church has been complacent, almost afraid of what God could do, if we truly gave our lives to Him.

Please be in prayer that God's Spirit would move MIGHTILY, that God's word would be preached FEARLESSLY, and that God's people would repent and be revived COMPLETELY.

Are you excited? Are you prepared? Maranatha!!! This could be the year that the Lord returns.... Will you allow God to speak to your heart over the course of the next few days?

Do EVERYTHING within your power to be present each and every night. Don't let anything or anyone keep you from hearing from God's messengers. It is a week that will change your life... literally... FOREVER...

What a Hand!!!

Some of you may have noticed a splint on my right hand... I broke off a little part of a bone on the last joint of my right pinky. :) Yes, I was playing basketball when this happened. Please know that I am well aware of how old I am.... hahehehahahahahaha... but I do enjoy running up and down the court with the team. My doc told me I had to wear this splint for 6 weeks... and I'm getting closer to having that right pinky back.

Don't know if you realize how difficult it is to type without the use of your little finger. It is almost impossible, and this experience has been a good reminder of I Corinthians 12:12, "The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body."

Why not continue to read in your Bibles I Corinthians 12:14-27 where it explains that even though we are all different, we all have a vital role to play in the body of Christ? The real question that remains is -- what is YOUR ROLE and are you PLAYING YOUR ROLE?

Why not look around the Church and see what role God desires for you to play?

Don't feel sorry for my right pinky. Let it be a reminder that we all have a distinct calling in the Kingdom of God.

Where have I been????

Below, in order: Dana Potter, Bill Ewing, Earl Everett, Derrick Giacomazzi, Dale Penn and yours truly... Missing is Kim Van... Kim, where were you today????

So sorry I haven't written in a while...

I was out of town last week... I had to attend a meeting for a publishing company, but I did manage to squeeze in a day of fishing.... We were on a river... the New river in West Virginia, fishing for small mouth bass. It was a day of peace in the midst of a crazy hectic schedule...

This morning at 7:00 a.m., we had our LIFE! Group meeting. I have been meeting with this group of men for MANY years... the discussion is always so right on target. There have been several times where I wish that everyone could sit in and listen to these great men who have so much wisdom. Three of them are Elders in our church, and I never walk away without thinking how blessed I am to sit and learn from them.

I have often wished someone would actually pay to put this LIFE! Group on television. You know... like the television show, The View. We could call it, His View, and it would be five or six men sitting around a table talking about the Word of God. And I think both men and women would tune in to watch that.

Who knows... maybe somebody reading this blog will be willing to produce this LIFE! Group on television. I know that's a bit presumtuous on my behalf, but week after week when I'm in this LIFE! Group, I wish other men could hear the discussion that takes place.

Have YOU attended a LIFE! Group this week? I hope so!!!

Pastor Dudley,
I feel so compelled to pass this along to you because it just amazes me that God is so tuned in to our situations. We own a very small window cleaning company, and recently it seems that everything in our lives has gone wrong. I was injured at my work after working for 10 years, and I was forced to be laid off until a workers compensation case could be decided. At the same time, my husband was injured and needed triple bypass surgery, so our income went from comfortable to nil. We were evicted from our home in front of my children, our car was repossessed, our bank account was closed, and our insurance cancelled. Things were horrible.

My husband always donates his time at Shepherd of the Hills church. He helps with the offering and hands out the communion. Anyway, on Friday, he was on Ventura Blvd. bidding a window and awning job when a group of 12 people approached him and began talking to him. They asked if there was anything that they could pray for with him, and he told them about our troubles. At this point, they informed him that they were from Shepherd of the Hills and he immediately said , “That’s my church, too!” A small woman in the back of the group stepped forward and said, “I know you, I see you in church every Sunday!” Well, these 12 prayed with my husband at approximately 4 o’clock in the afternoon. At 6:30 PM he was parking our car when his cell phone rang. It was an independent contractor offering my husband steady work starting this Monday! I had to share this with you because it's amazing that at 3 o’clock on Friday, our lives seemingly had no positive outlook—and after that prayer encounter on Ventura Blvd. with your 12 stewards, our lives have once again taken a positive turn. We now see light at the end of what seemed like a long dark road. Thank you for being you and allowing God to use you as our sounding board. God Bless you and your family, Pastor Dudley.

I wanted to share with you this letter of the month and let you in on a secret...the group of people who approached the writer's husband and prayed with him was none other than Caleb Kaltenbach and his team at the new Shepherd Woodland Hills church plant!

Holy Land Tour '08

Last night at 6:00 pm we conducted an informational meeting for our 2008 trip to the Holy Land (with a 4 day optional tour to Rome). We have reserved 100 airline seats for the last two weeks of May. I was pleasantly surprised when 130 people showed up for the meeting. Approximately half of the people in attendance (around 65) put down a deposit holding their spot, with many people coming in today. I think these seats are going to go fast... so if you have any interest in joining us, please get a hold of us at your earliest convenience...

This will be my 6th trip and we are prayerfully anticipating the Lord's blessing upon our time together...

If you have any interest or questions that need to be answered, contact Carla Keefrider at (818) 831-9333 or visit the website

It will be a trip of a lifetime.

Two New Satellite Plants

Woodland Hills Campus

I'm am soooooooooooooooooo jazzed about our two latest satellite plants. We launched one in Old Town Pasadena and another one at the Woodland Hills Middle School Academy.

Pasadena had 131 people and Woodland Hills at 564 people in attendance this past weekend.

Both campuses have dynamic worship teams and are very well organized. We have so many reasons to be thankful to the Lord for all that He is doing in our midst. Please check our church website,, for more information, and if you know of anyone in these two areas looking for a good church, do NOT hesitate to lead them to one of the two campuses.

The Woodland Hills campus is located at 20800 Burbank Blvd. in Woodland Hills. The Pasadena campus meets at the Laemmle One Colorado Cinema located at 42 Miller Alley in Old Town Pasadena. You may park at the One Colorado Parking Garage on Union St. and Fair Oaks Ave. Parking is free for three hours with validation at this lot.

Please keep Pastor William and Pastor Caleb in your prayers, as they continue to lead these two new satellite campuses. It is going to be exciting to see what God has planned for all these churches in the future.

Isn't it a blessing to see God move in and through our lives????

Ability or Availability???

This came from this week's sermon.
People think that they don't have enough talent for God to use them.

Moses stuttered.
David's armor didn't fit.
Timothy had ulcers.
Hosea's wife was a prostitute.
Jacob was a liar.
Solomon was too rich.
Jesus was single and poor.
Abraham was too old.
Titus was too young.
Peter had a big mouth.
Lazarus was dead.
John was self-righteous.
Naomi was a widow.
Paul was a murderer.
Jonah ran from God.
Miriam was a gossip.
Gideon and Thomas doubted.
Jeremiah was depressed and suicidal.
Elijah was burned out, depressed, and suicidal.
John the Baptist did not know how to dress.
Martha was a worrywart.
Mary was lazy.
Sampson had long hair.
Noah had a drinking problem.

You see, I believe, that in our weakness... God is able to do the impossible. Allow God to work through you in his strength. There are sooooooooooooo many lost people, and we need to reach them before Jesus Christ returns.

A Great Story

A seminary professor was vacationing with his wife in Gatlinburg, TN. One morning, they were eating breakfast at a little restaurant, hoping to enjoy a quiet, family meal. While they were waiting for their food, they noticed a distinguished looking, white-haired man moving from table to table, visiting with the guests. The professor leaned over & whispered to his wife, "I hope he doesn't come over here." But sure enough, the man did come over to their table. "Where are you folks from?" he asked in a friendly voice. "Oklahoma," they answered. "Great to have you here in Tennessee," the stranger said. "What do you do for a living?" "I teach at a seminary," he replied. "Oh, so you teach preachers how to preach, do you? Well, I've got a really great story for you." And with that, the gentleman pulled up a chair & sat down at the table with the couple.

The professor groaned & thought to himself, "Great, just what I need, another preacher story!" The man started, "See that mountain over there? (pointing out the restaurant window). Not far from the base of that mountain, there was a boy born to an unwed mother. He had a hard time growing up, because every place he went, he was always asked the same question, 'Hey boy, Who's your daddy?' Whether he was at school, in the grocery store or drugstore, people would ask the same question, 'Who's your daddy?' He would hide at recess & lunchtime from other students. He would avoid going into stores because that question hurt him so bad. "When he was about 12 years old, a new preacher came to his church. He would always go in late & slip out early to avoid hearing the question, 'Who's your daddy?' But one day, the new preacher said the benediction so fast he got caught & had to walk out with the crowd. Just about the time he got to the back door, the new preacher, not knowing anything about him, put his hand on his shoulder and asked him, Son, who's your daddy? The whole church got deathly quiet. He could feel every eye in the church looking at him. Now everyone would finally know the answer to the question, 'Who's your daddy?' "This new preacher, though, sensed the situation around him & using discernment that only the Holy Spirit could give, said the following to that scared little boy. "Wait a minute! I know who you are! I see the family resemblance now. You are a child of God."

With that he patted the boy on his shoulder & said, "Boy, you've got a great inheritance. Go & claim it." "With that, the boy smiled for the first time in a long time & walked out the door a changed person. He was never the same again. Whenever anybody asked him, 'Who's your Daddy?' he'd just tell them, 'I'm a Child of God.'" The distinguished gentleman got up from the table & said, "Isn't that a great story? "The professor responded that it really was a great story! As the man turned to leave, he said, "You know, if that new preacher hadn't told me that I was one of God's children, I probably never would have amounted to anything!" And he walked away. The seminary professor & his wife were stunned. He called the waitress over & asked her, "Do you know who that man was -- the one who just left that was sitting at our table?" The waitress grinned & said, "Of course. Everybody here knows him. That's Ben Hooper. He's the former governor of Tennessee!"

Someone in your life today needs a reminder that they're one of God's children!

"The grass withers & the flowers fall, but the word of God stands forever." Isaiah

Church Basketball

Norm (Josh's Dad), Todd, Dudley, Tan, Rick, Big Josh, Calvin
Just wanted to throw in a picture of the recent CHAMPIONS for the Shepherd of the Hills Basketball Summer League 2007. If you don't recognize me, I am the old guy in the middle.... hahahahaha

Big Joshua (the TALLEST guy) is the Sports Director here at our church. He is doing an incredible job here at church by using the venue of sports to reach people for Christ. In a way, this team has become my small group.

The gentleman on the far right recently lost his 38-year-old sister to a tragic homicide just a few days ago... We gathered around Calvin and prayed for him and his family, as they struggle through these difficult days. It was, for me, the REASON why we have a sports ministry - because not everyone in the picture above is saved. But that night, after the game, everyone was standing in a circle around Calvin, as we lifted him before the Lord. There wasn't a dry eye in the group. As I left the church that night, I prayed that those who did not yet know God would feel the burden and sorrow Calvin felt. Even more so, I prayed they would truly know, through the prayers offered up by the team, that ONLY the LORD GOD can bring comfort and strength, and that TODAY is the day of Salvation!!! Maranatha!!!

The Most Powerful Video Clip I've Ever Seen

As you can well imagine, I get a lot of things sent to me from the internet. Tonight, a staff member sent me the video clip above, and I want you to know that this video, without question, is the most powerful video clip I've ever seen. When you watch it, you need to know that it is real. The battle is real. The forces of evil are real.

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."

Ephesians 6:12-17

This is such a fitting video message. I'm thankful that we are able to visually see and understand this struggle in such a dramatic way. This video illustrates why it is imperative that we put on the full armor of God. If you notice, the very first piece of the armor is the belt of truth buckled around your waist, and also, towards the end of the excerpt above is the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. This coincides with our current series of messages on being good stewards of the Word of God, which is the Truth. Do not take this video lightly. Do not take this struggle lightly. Do not take the Word of God lightly.

I look forward to seeing each and everyone of you this weekend in church, as we continue our series on the Truth.

Mr. and Mrs. Michael North

Back to back weddings... :)

Last night was a very special night for Michael North, as he wed Emily Petterson. There were many church members in attendance, and afterwards, a reception was held at Larry and Jody Kern's house. It was a beautiful wedding, and the highlight of the evening was when Emily surprised Mike by singing a song to him right before the exchanging of the rings. Everyone was crying, for it was a very moving song.

The wedding song of all wedding songs was when the ceremony concluded, and they played "Can you say Amen to That," as the wedding party exited. There was shouting and clapping like I've never heard at a wedding.

I wonder what it was like when Jesus attended weddings... Well... He was at THIS wedding, and all who were there were blessed by the events of the evening.

If you get a chance, make sure you congratulate Michael and Emily, but I kinda think he'll be on his honeymoon this weekend...

But I will look forward to seeing each of you in church this weekend...
I can't wait to preach...
C. U. this weekend :)

Mr. and Mrs. David Chan

Wow... I am getting old... I remember baptizing David down at Hillcrest Christian Church when he was knee high to a grasshopper, and then last week, I was able to officiate his wedding at the Monarch Beach St. Regis Resort in Dana Point. His wife, Diane, was one of the very first to be saved from the West. L.A. campus in Brentwood, California.

I have known David's parents for a long, long time, and just recently, I was able to meet Diane's mother. David and Diane are two of the nicest people you'll ever meet, and I'm so thankful that they are both plugged in to our West L.A. Church Campus.

Please keep them in your prayers, and I wish you all could have been at the wedding. It was beautiful!!!

Tonight at the Church, we will be marrying Michael North to his fiance, Emily. It, too, promises to be a beautiful evening in the Lord.

Looking forward to seeing each of you in church this weekend....
Bring a bible and a friend.... :)

in love,

Fearless and Female

Cindy Cushing and Julie Ladd dressed up on "Grandparents Day"
This will be quite the story for those of you patient enough to read it. I grew up in Wichita, Kansas and as usual, a group of us all went to the same elementary school, junior high school and then on to the same high school (Wichita Southeast High School).

The picture above is of two of my friends taken back in elementary school. The girl on the left is Cindy Cushing and the girl on the right is Julie Ladd. They were both very good friends of mine throughout my adolescent years. When college came around, we all went our different ways and it became very difficult to keep tabs on everyone.

Julie, the girl on the right, who happened to be one of the nicest and brightest girls in the entire school, was brutally murdered her freshman year at Wichita State University in her dorm room. She was 19 years old. They believe that she was in her dorm room preparing a Sunday School lesson for church, where she taught on weekends. She had gone to get something to eat out of the vending machines on the bottom floor of the dorm, when her attacker took her life and murdered her in cold blood.

Cindy, the girl on the left, now spends her time traveling the country training and teaching women how to protect themselves. She has a website called and a blog called that is filled with information and pictures.

Words cannot express how saddened we all continue to be at the loss of Julie's life all these years later, and words cannot express how thankful we are for the work and dedication of Cindy all these years to help prepare and equip women to protect themselves.

I want to encourage you to go to Cindy's website and read the dedication page written on behalf of her dear friend, Julie.

I, personally, am blessed by Cindy's desire to turn a tragedy into a triumph. She took a horrible event in the life of her dear friend, and she has used it as a catalyst to make a difference in our world.

We continue to pray for women who have suffered as a result of the violence in our world.

Thank you, Cindy, for helping all of us...

Michael North is Getting Married

Can you guess WHO is WHO???
Thee Original Michael North. Dudley South. Casey May, Pee Wee, Steve Syatt, Danny Furukawa and Marty Collins...
Our worship Pastor, Michael North, is getting married in just a few days... :) Recently, a few of his friends surprised him with a night out for dinner. We had all arrived early, and Michael's fiance brought him to Black Angus for some alone time, yet Michael didn't know what awaited him. Marty Collins had made some Michael North masks, and when he came around the corner, he saw a group of people in the corner booth all singing, "Set the Stage for a Miracle."

I was laughing so hard that it was hard to sing..... ahahahahahahahaahah

But then we all lowered our masks and had a wonderful evening sharing stories and advice with Michael on marriage and life.

I want to thank Michael for his gift of leading our church in corporate worship. My prayer for him and his future bride is that God would bless him beyond his wildest imaginations. Michael, YOU are a dear friend, and I consider it an honor to work with you side by side in ministry here at Shepherd of the Hills Church.

Right to Life

It's been a few days since I've posted... perhaps the longest time I've ever gone without posting...
But a lot has been happening... I have been working on the '08 theme and schedule, and yesterday was a big day... The Lord usually fills my heart with a direction and a theme. Then ideas and thoughts come flooding into my mind, and yesterday, it was like a dam breaking.

It's always a blessing to be alone with God and to seek His will and His direction for your life. It's always an added blessing to search His will on behalf of the church. I want to thank everyone for your patience and your prayers.

I do want to mention that recently, our church hosted an event for the Pregnancy Counseling Center here in the Valley. This is an organization that helps women in crisis. They are a pro-life organization that offers hope to women who find themselves with an unwanted pregnancy. They offer help and counsel, as well as prayers and encouragement. They come alongside these women and let them know that there is a lot of help available, if they chose life for their baby.

Since 1973, we have aborted 45 million babies in the United States of America. The Bible teaches us that God knit us together in our mother's womb (Psalm 139:13). God canNOT be pleased with how little concern we show towards the unborn children who are made in HIS image. Please do what you can to help organizations like the Pregnancy Counseling Center.

At this event, Michael W. Smith performed a concert and Jim Caviezel gave his testimony and support. It was a wonderful evening at Shepherd of the Hills Church, but the Lord convicted me that we need to do MORE as a church and MORE as individuals for the sanctity of life.
