I LOVE THIS GAME

The N.B.A. is up and running. I can't really explain it to you but I love the game of basketball. It's fun. It's fast. It good for you to get out and run up and down the court. It requires teamwork to be successful. And there are always those who do NOT want you to be successful. In fact, there are some who actually want you to lose. Yet, when you win, even though it's just a game, there is a certain satisfaction that you have knowing that you've done your best and have overcome all obstacles. All of the above statements could be true as it relates to serving in the Church. It's fun. It's fast. It's good for us to be involved. It takes teamwork to be successful and there are always those who are against you. Yet, when you overcome, you have this feeling of joy knowing that you stood up against those who oppose the work of the Lord. Having said all that... jump on in. Get involved. Join your church. Serve the body of Christ. Become a part of the TEAM. We've got a great Head Coach and he'll ultimately help us win. It won't be boring. And it's always better to be IN THE GAME than watching from the sidelines. And all God's people said???? AMEN

“Amen” indeed Pastor Dudley.

My husband and I have been visiting your church recently and we think that Shepherd is a lovely church and are pleasantly surprised to have found your blog.
Thanks for your contribution to our community and to the internet.

For almost a decade, we’ve been members of a medium size church (about 2000 members) in Los Angeles where almost everyone we know serves at church in some capacity. It was taught, ingrained, and expected of each member of the congregation to participate. Personally speaking, it’s been a great lesson to learn. It’s one thing to attend church, but another to be connected and as you say “be in the game”. It really does add another dimension to church going.

I must confess that it’s not always fun and there are times when it’s incredibly difficult to get up early to serve. But when you challenge yourself and open your heart to the call of service, God will begin incredible work in you. I encourage every member to volunteer in their church.

This might sound radical, but I think every parent that send their kids to a sunday school or the nursery should volunteer once in a while in their kids classes. This is what I do, and it allows me to get to know my kids, their friends and teachers better which is a great asset to any parent.

If you’re not already serving or volunteering, get yourself out on the field and see what God will do in your life.
